We keep a pair of livestock guardian dogs on our farm to protect our goats from coyotes and other predators. Our dogs are both purebred Great Pyrénées, who came to us as puppies from other farms where their parents were working livestock guardian dogs. The Great Pyrénées breed has been protecting sheep and other livestock in the mountains of southern France since 3,000 B.C.E.
